Hi there,

Trying to buy a diesel passat for a while but I'm getting confused about those PD engines.
I have my eye on V reg (early 2000) passat with 1.9 TDi PD 115. Now, my friend tells me that volkswagen started to put a new engines from mid 2000 (would I be ritht thinking that's so only for the revised B5.5?) and all the time I thought that PD engines are exactly those newish ones (looks like I wasn't right).

Could anyone explain that to me? I looked up wiki and it says there that those passats were build with TDi and TDi PD engines.

Also, the guy says that it returns up to 55 on a long run? Is that possible?

Would be graetful for any info.

thanks
zalek

The first PD passat was in 1998, engine code AJM (115bhp) Our country had the PD unit only, after 2001, although some other countrys still had the VEP tdi untill around 2004/5.

If its defo a 115bhp then it will be a PD engine.

Yes 55mpg is possible.

You will get better performace out of the PD engines, but some say less reliability. The 115bhp is the more economical version and may well give up to 55mpg, but it all depends on how it's driven, 60 in lane 1 - possible 85 in lane 3 - impossible. Good luck in your search.
