Hi there, back again!
after all the problems I've had in the past with my brakes on this car, this is a new one to me, just at the touch of the brake petal the brakes jam quite rapidly causing the car to come to a very hard stop, then I have to sit there for at least thirty seconds before they will release again so I can move off? I've had servo trouble in the past and a new tandem pump fitted, could anyone with a knowledge of the system on this car give me some pointers?? as I'm at a loss:confused:

Have you read all the threads on here about this problem?
It is usually caused by water in the servo, be careful, as this water usually ends up in the engine via the vacuum booster pump!

:aargh4:Yeah, just ran through them all and it was like going through the knightmare all over again, I,ve removed the cover to check for water where the battery is in the plenum chamber and guess what ! yep! enough water to wash my hands in, had to remove the battery to get in and clean out all the dead leaves, there is a drain hole in there somewhere? as soon as I started pulling out the leaves the water started to drain away;) guess the water got into the servo again! will have make sure this area is always clear as this problem has cost me in the past, to the tune of a few hundred:mad: in repair costs......

VW have just recalled my 2002 tdi to sort out the plenum drain - after a bit of discussion they agreed to refund me the 600 quid that i forked out for last year when the servo filled with water, needed relacing and lead to the brakes locking - all as a result of the 'fault' on the plenum drain.
Can only suggest you take the car along to your nearest vw dealer and ask them about the recall...best of luck

When you say VW have recalled your 2002 Passat, do you mean this is a class recall ? and can you provide details so that we can pin the VW dealer down and avoid being fobbed off.. Thanks Richard

Yeah I'd like to pin someone for around £500 worth of work I've had done to my car because of this problem, not to mention the incontinence of it all:aargh4:

the recall quoted by vw to do the work on the plenum drain was '51B8" (their ref number). not too sure if it's a class recall or not - best of luck
