I've recently purchased an 80 V6 Quattro to replace the V6 Coupe I had stolen and it has a few minor issues I'd like to fix.
One of them is the boot lock. It won't open with either the central locking or the key so I have to resort to climbing into the boot and pulling on the metal linkage which operates the latch to open the boot.
I can turn the key in the lock and the rear of the mechanism turns but doesn't seem to connect to the metal linkage at all - I can't figure out how it should be.
Can anyone give me any advise or even a photo/diagram of the back of the lock mechanism so I can see how the lock should actuate the linkage?
Thanks

You know there is a bar going from the lock mechanism to the latch mechanism, if this is fitted correctly, then either the lock or latch mech must be faulty. Does it operate the latch with the boot open (you would need to manually close the latch to check this).
I dont know if the same would apply to a saloon, but my coupe boot mech will not operate if the stop buffers are set too high, when it fails to operate, I can get around this, by pressing the hatch down to take the pressure off the latch mechanism.

It doesn't operate the latch mechanism even when the boot is open - and when closed the boot seems to be sitting fine (not loo low or too high so there should be no undue pressure placed on the latch).
I'm afraid I can't really see much on the image you attached as it's too small to view and if I enlarge it the clarity goes!

Ah, sorry, my IT 'skills' are quite limited, I impressed myself that I managed that much! - guess it's back to the drawing board:confused:
In the meantime, suggest you register at 'vagcat' the online parts reference, and view the picture there?
Thinking about your original post, - as the boot opens ok when you manually pull the linkage/bar, I guess the latching mechanism is ok, the problem is likely to be the key barrel end. There is a square drive on the inner end of the key barrel itself, there may be a problem with this assembly, it sounds as if the mechanism is failing to unlock? (PM me your Email address for more info;))
