Hi folks

I am one very pi**ed off pdi130 6 gear about to go on holiday, towing caravan, person!!!

to cut a long story short, after 2 years of very seldom clutch slip (solo) the last 6 weeks it started to slip frequently in 5 and 6 between 2000 and 3000 revs. So I thought it must be time to change clutch and flywheel (114000 on the clock) Have regularly towed a caravan even during the last 2 years without any problem, and certainly no clutch slip. Went to pick the car up tonight to be greeted with a very upset and capeable mechanic. He was totally baffled as to why having replaced everything as normal, he could not select gears. Apparently the bit on the gearbox which the selector mechanism is bolted onto didnt seem to have any resistance to pushing it and failed to spring back????

My question is, anyone any idea what could possibly have gone wrong! and what on earth is the fix???

Please help guys, I am going down in the morning with boiler suit on!

No replies?? and still no car!
My mechanic has been in touch with VW along with a host of other garages and is still completely baffled. No one can understand what could have happened. VW answer is to replace the whole gearbox!
Obviously not an option, even the mechanic says he has driven my car many times and there was nothing wrong with the gearbox before. He has compared it with another identical box and mine has no resistance when the selector is pushed whereas the other one springs back!

Hope for some suggestions soon.

Thanks

No suggestions, that is bad news, though you already know that:o
