Hi All

Running a VW Passat 1.9TDI and having problems with coolant light.

Wife started car in the morning (cold conditions) Coolant Light came on, with a stop message and reference to check coolant level.

I checked car 2 hours later and no warning lights and coolant level was fine.

Wife drove car for 2 days and no problems and no lights.
Temperature gauge in normal position during driving.

On 3rd day problem occurs again, although now the Warning light stays on with 'Check Coolant' message. again car is cold and has not been run.

Would appreciate any advice. Please bear in mind a) I am new to VW's and the Passat b) my level of car diy ability is unfortunately poor

Appreciate any help

perhaps a faulty sensor? or even just a bit dirty on the contacts... or a loose wire. try unplugging the sensor and re-plugging it... or better still clean the contacts with a cotton bud and ethanol or something.

Had the same issue on my old Golf mk4

Thanks djsky

This is where I show my lack of car diy.

Which bit is the actual sensor ? and where do I find the contacts ?

I've unscrewed the plug of the coolant container and then replugged, but which are the relevant bits.

Apologies for my stupidity ?

I would imagine it's a black connector on the side of the coolant container... i haven't had my passat that long, and it's over at the office at the mo, so i can't check i'm afraid.
