Just bought a 1999 (V) 2.5 tdi 88hp with 117K and history for £2400 from the local electrician so advertised my 1998 (R) 102hp T4 with 227k and sold it for £1650 on Ebay but......

On getting the new van home which had that day driven 10 miles from the MOT station I was changing the tyres to some nearly new ones I had and noticed one of the back brake pads was down to the metal and on the other side, the disc was rusty - caliper siezed, plus the rear box has more holes than a seive (but its quite). Should I compain to the MOT station? Its one I have used and trusted and he has failed me on small points which I prefer.

Secondly - the glow plug light comes and flashes on and off after a few seconds. The seller told us it had always done that and on the test drive it drove Ok so just thougt it was a fault stored but solved. On getting the van home and starting from cold, the engine is lumpy - like a cylinder down. Any ideas? OK after a few miles driving.

The new van is smoother that the 102hp but that extra 14hp does make a difference - revs easier from lower to mid revs - not much top end.

Guess the last owner sold it at the right time

if its an MOT tester you know keep schtum, looks like hes helping you!:aargh4:
with the flashing glowplug light, check the brake lights, and brake light switch, they have been known to cause this, but as you say its lumpy on idle you may have a glow plug gone, on the 5 cly engines they can be a pain to get at though. does it run 'right' shortly after starting?

I didn't take the van for the MOT - the seller did. He phoned me from the MOT station to say it had passed and drove home.

the 88hp van is smoother when driving but rougher at idle - when cold or hot than my 102hp van - which had an extra 110k miles! Think I need to by an OBD2 cable and get investigating.

If you are going to complain to the MOT station then do it formerly, otherwise they will just say it was good at the time of the test.

To cap it off, just scrapped the bugger down a gate post - 4 days and counting!
