Sorry mate what do you mean by difference? I think there is actually a difference in the engines, with the 5 speed having slightly more torque than the 6 speed. Thats about all I know!

@ around 2003 - On the 1.9TDi B6 - The Quatrro came with 6 speed and FWD 5 speed..

Im unsure if they put it in later on the B6 -

Also.. the gearing is different within the range on the 6 speed which helps MPG when crusing in 6th

But on a combined cycle it evens out as the 5 speed has slightly more torque and is less laboured getting up to speed, therefore better fuel economy. Mine is 5 speed. As Rick mentioned the 6 speed would probably be better for somebody who mainly does motorway miles.

personally I find the 6-speed has better mid range torque then the 5-speed, its almost like its got 2 3rd gears due to the closer ratio.

A friend of mine has a 5-speed and other than that our cars are pretty identical, in a drag race we stay level (0-90) until i change from third to 4th gear when I pull away a reasonable amount

That must mean that the 5 speed comes back later... as the top speed is the same, unless your friend was backing off... :D

top speed is the same, but the 6 speed will get to the top speed first IMO.

I think you are confusing top speed an acceleration.

No, I know what acceleration and speed is, jeez. As you said, the 6 speed might accelerate (key term) quicker, but in the end the top speed (2nd key term) is the same.

Sorry when you said "comes back later" i was presuming you meant the 5 gear car would catch back up later.

True. But the 5 speed may come back in 5 th gear, as the 6 speed has to shift into 6th. Overall the 6 speed probably has slightly quicker acceleration. Never tried it though.
