I have just bought a 1.8T Sport Estate with a tiptronic auto box and it has an eratic idle which the garage I got it from said the would sort out but are having trouble working out what is wrong (Not a VW dealer).
I know that there are some similar threads but none seem quite right.
At worst the engine hunts up & down between say 800 to 1200 although the problem is hardly noticeable when in neutral but is particularly evident when in gear - eg stopped at a junction, particularly when in reverse for some reason.
Quite interesting in an auto as it has the effect of bobbing the car up and down - ammusing but tiring!
The garage had cleaned out the throttle houseing before I picked the car up from them and this certainly made an initial improvement so that I didin't notice the problem when I picked it up but since then it has become worse again.
I have seen references in other threads to Mass Airflow Meters needing to be cleaned or replaced and I have mentioned this to the garage.
If anyone has seen this particular problem / has an answer / suggestion, I would appreciate it although I will be taking it back to the garage to sort.
