my 98 tdi somtimes beeps three times,there are no warning lights on the display. anyone know why?

Could be an ABS control/sensor fault.

Do all the warning lights illuminate during the ignition self-test?

Have you checked the level of brake fluid, or checked for a worn pad?

Are the beeps all the same length and tone?

I would have thought that you should get a warning light for brake problems.

It would be a good idea to check for DTC's with vagcom.

all lights come on. beeps same length and tone. all levels ok. had low level on power steering when i got car and warning came up on central display, also when brake light bulb went.

The only problems that will give 3 beeps from the dash are brake system, coolant and oil pressure, but these should all be accompanied by a warning light.

Does your car have the DIS trip computer?

not sure on all the beep meanings, but i always thought it was:

1 beep for a non-serious 'yellow' warning ( fuel, temp, washer fluid, bulbs, speed, voltage etc)

3 beeps for a serious 'red' warning (brakes, coolant, oil etc)?

4 beeps, alarm siren backup battery weak.

it has trip computer between clocks forfuel consumption, time driven,radio channel etc.a few times when starting a big red warning comes on. this goesw out after a couple of flashes.it has never come on whilst driving. have not checked brake pad wear. would this be a red warning?

Yep, that is most likely it.

You should be able to check with the red button on the instuments.

on my old a4 I had 3 beeps without any signals and only 1 way to find out is the VAG toll
interior monitor and check for fault codes
will be a few ...... enjoy.... Power of TDI

I have the same problem on my golf mk5, upon ignition i get 3 beeps from the dash and its been driving me crazy. A couple of times during ignition the car would make clicking noises so i thought it would be a power/battery/starter problem. I checked the battery after and noticed a buildup of salt on the battery, im guessing that was the problem. I cleaned the salt off with some hot water and a brush and its been about 2 days now i havent heard the beeps anymore.

Do the beeps come from the dash or the back of the car?

Has a similar problem on my A4, turned out to be the battery in the alarm sounder located in the rear qtr panel.

It beeps to warn you that the battery is low.

my a4 won,t beep for weeks then goes off almost constant for a few days,then stops again!

The beeps come from the dash, they only start the second I fire up the engine
