hi guys,another small problem.
well my little one broke the indicator stalk today,i went and bought a replacement part from a local scrappy.
problem is that he gave me the complete unit,it has the indicator and wiper stalks together, but on the wiper stalk it has the small button on the side and a reset button.
on my car it doesnt have this,if i put it on will it work?
also when taking the steerinf wheel off and disconneting the air bag should i disconnct the battery?
how do i go about doing this small job?

I think the buttons will be for the DIS, if your car doesn't have it then the buttons shouldn't make any difference
I would imagine you don't need to take the steering wheel off, disconnecting the battery may be worth while.
I once took the steering wheel off to replace the indicator stalk on a Clio I had - it turns out I didn't need to (God knows why I did it!) and then I managed to cross-thread the bolt putting the steering wheel back on. That wasn't much fun!

Hi,
The addtional button is for the DIS... (ie MPG etc etc..)
in regards to fitting, - A chap in the below thread has just fitted cruise control to his A4, could be worth dropping him a message asking how he got to the stalks as he would of had to of done this for the cruise control fitting.

Hi there, it was me in that thread Rick mentioned! Right then, to change the indicator stalk over you will need to remove the steering wheel, it physically cannot be done with it still attached. You must must unhook the negative terminal of your battery when you do this, its just too dangerous to handle a live airbag when you do this else your liable to hurt yourself if it accidentally triggers, not to mention scare the pants off you!! You dont need the radio code unless you actually unplug the radio! Anyway herehttp://www.audiretrofit.co.uk is the site I used to tell me how to do this, took me an hour to strip & re-assemble everything, I had never done this before but could do it a lot quicker now i've done it once!!
Are the replacement wiper & indicator stalks you've got plugged into & bolted to another unit with a big hole in the middle by any chance? If so then this is the steering wheel control module that will allow you to activate the DIS feature the buttons on the wiper stalk are for. The instructions i've given explain how you need to activate all this, if you want more info though ask away.
If you just want to swap the indicator stalk over you need to do no coding work, just plug it in. You could probably also sell the DIS wiper stalk on ebay, they're about £30 new!
If you need to know more let me know, happy to help!

You dont need the radio code unless you actually unplug the radio
Just a note to say I took my Symphony II radio/changer out to fit an aftermarket HU but decided it was too much hassle! the stock radio was disconnected from the car for over 24hrs and needed no code when plugged back in, someting to do with holding it within the car can-bus system
So you only need a code if you are changing radios over.
Mine is a B6 2005 btw
