First of all i`d like to say Hi to everyone. Great site, very helpfull. I have a 55 plate VW Passat 1.9tdi SE. My first car! Although with a little research i could find out myself, i thought i`d ask you guys. What would be the best engine oil and coolant to use.

Welcome to the forum

Not sure on the best oil and coolant, but there are certain specs of oil that should be used.

Refer to the manual as I think it varies a little bit - I think 507.00 is the oil you might want (This is from memory so I'd check).

Failing that, give the service department of your local VW dealer a call - I've done that before and they're usually quite helpful. Try to keep them onside, especially when it comes to any warranty/goodwill work too :)

And welcome to our happy family :D

505.01 will be fine for your car if you have std servicing for 105 & 140 PS engines.

I have used Millers XFE PD for a few years in my 115 Alhambra & to top up my 140 Passat.

During the warranty period I would use VW's coolant - assuming it needs any topping-up! Obviously, if it needs too much topping-up, take it back.

Oh dear.. I am going to have to admit it. As an ex company car driver (all petrol engines and I didn't ever have to look under the bonnet) I don't think I ever came across coolant... What does it do? - I realise it must cool something....
