Hi people, basically i'm looking to buy a 1.9 TDI sport on an 2000 - 2004 plate. i was just wondering about servicing and how much does it cost, either if you do it yourself or you get Audi to do it for you.
thanks people

If you pay audis rip off price you will pay £300 + for the following
Oil, Oil filter, Pollen filter, full vehicle check ie brakes suspension etc.
Go to a good non Audi Mechanic and I would say about £170ish, or if your good friends with a mechanic £110 hehe :biglaugh:
Local garage near me lists servicing costs online, plus I think they advertise on this forum.
Have a look at this link.

Or do it yourself which I do. I also have vagcom (diagnostic tool) which helps.
I'd choose fixed servicing over variable. Variable can run as long as 2 years without inspection... not ideal. I service mine evey 6 months or 5k. OTT perhaps, but I keep the car in mint condition.

Ok, so if i were to do the service myself, then how much would the service parts cost e.g. oil filter, air filter, oil, spark plugs etc.. How hard is it to do? I've serviced petrol engines no problems, but are diesels are abit more complex?
thanks people

You may have trouble putting spark plugs into a diesel :biglaugh:
Best to use genuine parts, call your local Audi garage and just ask for service parts costs/part numbers....you will need you chassis number to hand when calling.

I use my local supplies. They use MANN products. German made. No need, IMO to get them from Audi at inflated prices. There are only a few manufacturers of oil filters in the world (I read this, don't cripple me if I'm wrong :o) and they stamp them for whomever they are for... ie vw Audi.
The best thing you can do is regular maintenance. Clean filters, good oil will keep the engine running sweet.
I pay about £35 for oil and filter, then an extra £30 on top every year for air, pollen and fuel filter, fuel filter every 2 years.

I always buy genuine service parts from Audi. I service and do everything to my car myself, being an ex mechanic. But i'll try to find the receipt for all the service parts for mine. Mind you, mine included timing belt, tensioner and water pump. You will also need to change the pollen filter for your air-con/climate control if you have it. "Spark plugs" are something you definitely do find everyday on a diesel, or any day really.
