This is down as an option according to the manual when you lock/unlock your car. Bascially the switch for it is next to the headlight aim control (below the lights switch) which I don't have. Is this possible to retro-fit? Need new control unit and wiring? I think this is different to the auto lights which come on when it gets dark.

This is something you can turn on using vagcom if you've got it. If not then a friendly local auto-electrician should be able to do this for you. Its come up before on the forum so do a search for more details.

Hi,

I have the same issue as Tony, can someone please post a link regarding this issue

thanks

I believe more than just a software settting is required using VAG-COM.
If the dash switch is set tpo on for this feature, the fog lights do not illuminate on entry or exit if it's light out - only during low light conditions.

This therefore implies the light sensor is also required, which typically would only be present if the auto lights pack is installed.

There have been a few good threads on this - one contained a full write up for isntallation including the dimming rear view mirror as part of the same job.

I may have read this on another site - so excuse the blatant off site link :

There's a few considerations and dependencies to get it working...

I was interested in this but it looks a bit too involved for me....and £££ in bits + VAGcom

I'm North Hants so if you could get to me, I have Vag-Com so could help with the coding if it would make the idea any more viable.

I've asked this question on the forum before... mycarsavw recommended this site: http://www.autowindow.com/. btw...it's the 'autowindow brite'.

Havn't got round to ordering it yet.. as don't know of anyone who could fit it..

My friend has 325Ci and has fitted some kinda 'wiring loom or loop??' ... linked to his interior lights. But now that I have HID's, not too sure if this technique would work as they require a significant charge to get 'em going!

Has anybody managed to do this? According to this thread in the B7 forum:

http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=46888

you can install the coming home/parking feature without any auto-dimming mirrors but you do need to put a wire across pins to fool the system that you have the auto light switch. After that its vag-com coding. If it can be done for a A3, then I don't see why not for a A4.

Had a quick look at the A4/B6 circuits last night with a view of what was done on the A3 link above - first impressions it's not pin compatible with the A3. On the A3 put pin 12 of the light switch to permanent ground and VAG-COM the convenience module - will not work on an A4 no pin 12 on light switch.

I had previously looked at the documented retrofit covered elsewhere on the net (NAVPLUS) but my concern was that the official Audi circuits document this factory option from "2003 onwards". So would my 2001 B6 have the correct "09 - Cent Elec Power Supply" module version - i.e. with all the wiring changes would the car know what to do????
The B7 threads would suggest NOT since only possible from 2004 onwards - but a new module would sort it at additional expense..
I do not have the light sensor + Auto dipping mirror - so replacement mirror required.

The light sensor is mounted on the windscreen in combination with the switch type Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror - from 2003 onwards. You could fool this signal to the power module. This feeds into the "09-CEPSU" on pin 19.
**My question would be what is the nature of this signal?? i.e. 0v / 12v or other level when at the dark threshold level ??

The "coming home lights" active signal from it's dedicated switch is simply a ground wire signal to the "09-CEPSU" on Pin 24. Floating=OFF, 0v=ON.

The rest is activated by VAG-COM.
I guess you fool the system into having a light sensor etc. via coding?

So with two repair wires this may work on 2004- A4/B6 cars??

Could be annoying having lights on when you lock/unlock the car thou without a light sensor.

Very good points Woorlord as always! Mine is a 53 Reg (registered sep 2003) but the ******* thinks its a 2004 model! Surely a 53Reg is built BEFORE 2004?!

The other thing is that for this to work, the convenience module must be of type 8E0 907 279 F (i.e. power supply HighLine version) and not 8E0 907 279 C (power supply LowLine Version). I believe the highline version came in 2004 (looking at the NAVPLUS site).

Given the cost of doing this retrofit (Auto-dimming Rear View Mirror about £200 on its own!), I thought this would be worth doing without it. True, having lights on when locking/unlocking without a light sensor would be a pain. In this case, can you not just turn them on manually and then turn them off when getting in the car? When leaving, I guess they won't be on for long (time set by vag-com).

So the 2 repair wires needed would be for 09-CEPSU Pin 19 and Pin 24 on the power supply module of the convenience module? i.e. Pin 19 from the auto dimming mirror and Pin 24 from the dedicated switch?

I'll need to scan the module with vag-com to see if its the correct one i.e. type 8E0 907 279 F.

Thanks for the info! adaption codes and settings are for activating this in vag-com: 09 (Central Electronics)Coding -> Function 07

A1,0,Coming Home
A1,5,Coming Home
A2,6,Note: Only 8E0 907 279 E/F
A2,7,
A1,8,If the system is activated and it's dark
A1,9,fog lights/parking lights/taillights/lisence plate lights
A1,10,are switched on as soon as the drivers door is opened.
A1,11,
A1,12,Factory setting: 30 seconds
A1,13,Range: 30...60 seconds (increments 1 s)

P.S. I'm having problems with the central locking (intermittent car not unlocking/locking with key fob). Haynes manual suggests faulty switch/relay so I'll have to scan for faults anyway!

Hi "Tony_Anon"

You've confirmed what I suspected - Thanks for the version info.

My 2001 has the following modules:
09-Central Electronics 8E0 907 279 B
46-Central Convenience 8E0 959 433 AH
(Module 46 was replaced by me in Nov 2007 owing to unlocking problems - brand new unit from ******** installed, my original 2000 manufactured one was version AK )

A colleague at work has a 2004 A4 3.0L Q Sport and I know he has Coming Home lights from new, just checked a scan I've done in the past for him and his modules are:
09-Central Electronics 8E0 907 279 F
46-Central Convenience 8E0 959 433 BC

I guess this confirms it would not have worked with my installed modules.

If anyone is interested in a an Auto Light Switch for a B7 model, I have one which i've just removed from a Salvage A4. Its almost brand new with no wears and tears. I can also supply the auto dim mirror which came of the same vehicle.

Hi,

Can anybody tell me what front lights come on when 'coming home'? Is it the sidelights + fog or just fog when you open the driver's door in the dark?

Also, when I lock the car, the fogs stay on for about 4 mins even though there's enough light outside in which case they shouldn't be coming on!

hello, new to this but hopefully can help as i have just done this mod to my 2003 avant the lights that work on the front of car are fog lights only along with rear tail lights and number plate lights, the time they stay on is adjustable from 30 seconds to 60 seconds only adjustable via vag com the controller must end with version F plus dont make the same mistake i made with the auto dim mirror, originally bought one with compass but internal circuitry for this mirror is different to the proper one needed there are quite a few variants for mirror which is car specific.if any help required PM me and i will do my best to help
as for lights staying on when you have locked the car that is what coming home function is it is to light up the driveway long enough for you to see to get to the front door but his should only work if it is dark not in the day

Hi,

Welcome! Thanks for the advice. Everything seems to be working now. I don't have the auto dim mirror with compass. Only slight concern was with the autolights (dipped+side) taking a while to switch off when got bright enough in the day but I guess depends on the sensitivity of the light sensor. Surprising how dark it gets with clouds around!
