Do a search as it hapened to peoples before on the b5 platform(a4/a6/a8/passat). Most of the times you will have to break the door panel and get a replacement from the dealer. You could try a auto locksmith that has done it beffore and knows his way around. Your car its fitted with deadlocks that engages as soon as you arm the car/alarm. There is a way to pulse/pick the locks but i dont remember where i read about it.

I have had a similar problem. There was a fault with the wiring where it goes into the door and my friendly auto-electrician fixed it but the problem still recurs occasionally.
Have you tried using relocking and unlocking using the button in the drivers' door? That usually seems to resolve it for me.

Thanks very much for your help with my problem, unfortunately I still have the problem, I tried what you suggested. So it is back to the drawing board.
Booking it in to a vw dealership will solve the problem, but it will be like handing over a blank cheque
Many Thanks

The problem seems to have been solved. After haveing removed the inner door panel and the wiring loom, the wiring is frayed where it goes into the door on the door pillar. It is working but really needs a new loom which I am sourceing.
Many Thanks to everybody who have offered help

I have a similar problem with my passat, went to the car this morning and N/S rear door would not shut, other doors fine ! after a good slam the door closed, now I cannot get the door open at all !
What could it be? the central locking sounds ok and the pins are going up and down. Phoned VW to book in next week, does anybody have any ideas?
