Hi all,

I've had my 2005 '05 Audi A4 2.0 TDi S-Line 140PS for just over a month now and I'm in love.

A quick query though, am I wrong in thinking I should be able to see the MPG on the dashboard computer as well as the calculated fuel-distance? I think I've pressed all the buttons (I like buttons...) but none of them give me anything but a distance.

Are we allowed to post pics here? I've had a [admittedly brief] glance at the 'read me before posting!' threads but didn't see anything regarding pic-posting regulations?

Best regards to you all!

Rich.

There is a rocker button on the end of the right hand stalk that operates the functions. You should be able to go through all the functions there (distance travelled, mpg, avg mpg, etc.) - remember that there are 2 readouts (1 and 2 in the top right corner) that show readings for 'this journey' and 'since last reset'.

Hope that helps.

Hmm, while the book says it has many of the functions that are only available on a model fitted with an onboard computer (eg, door/boot catch alerts etc), there is no rocker button at the end of the wiper stalk.

I'd have hoped this sort of functionality would be standard on the S-Line model... Would anybody know if this is a simple stalk upgrade or a massive on-board computer overhaul type thing?

Colour me numpty.

It's possible to buy a stalk with the DIS control on it and get it fitted. The same information is on all of the ECUs but the control is an optional extra. I would have thought that it'd be standard in an S-Line but I'm not all that familiar with factory spec. I'm trying to get one fitted on my B6. I'm getting the stalk for £30 but I don't know how much it's going to cost to get it wired in.

Excellent news. I will visit the local dealers, forthwith!

The S-line wouldnt have this as standard, but it did come on the SE model. Its very cheap to install yourself, for the B7 you just need the stalk and to have it programmed. Vagparts will be a little cheaper than a dealer possibly so give them a try also for the stalk. You can programme it yourself using vagcom if your up for it!

I have just bought an 07 2.0TDI S-Line 170 which has the rocker switch on the end of the stalk but it doesn't seem to do anything (not had time to look at the book properly yet). Wonder if it's something to do with having the sat-nav active.

Hi there. If you have the Sat Nav Compass setting on you will get info on the dash display for this and not the MPG etc. Just switch the compass setting off via sat nav settings and you should be ok. I have the same setup and can see all the mpg etc data on the dash. Hope that helps.

Found a button on the underside of the stalk which when pressed a couple of times allows me to see all the different data on the dash via the rocker switch. :o It reverts back to the nav display every time I switch the engine back on.

Is it DVD Based SatNav?

If so then you should be able to change the screen by using the button on the underside of the stalk, however it only should be coming on when the Nav is engaged

Yes it is DVD based.
I did find the button and all seem well. Must have the Sat-Nav engaged all the time because every time I switch on it reverts to the Nav display.

You need to switch off the compass setting in the sat nav setup to stop this if you don't want it.

Hey there,

I am just in the process of getting a 54 Plate B7 2.0 TDi S-Line and it doesn't have the buttons on the stalk like my current Golf does.

Did you ever get this installed on your A4 and was it just a case of changing the Stalk over or does it need a new dash binacle for the computer??

Thank in advance

This is one thing that has annoyed me ever since I bought my A4. I have the colour DIS fitted because of having the DVD sat nav as a factory fit option and Ive always wanted it to display the mpg etc instead of a compass, thanks! :D

How much would a dealer take to install the stalk and program it?

THE SWITCH IS £50 and half hours labour without fitting the washer bottle level sensor which will show as empty on the DIS once the MFI is retro fitted. You can bypass this by giving the dash a earth return signal on pin1 of the dash blue connection or run the wire from the connection in the nsf a pillar to the washer bottle and retro fit the sensor

At the moment my display shows how many miles are left in my tank and goes through all the checks when you start the car. Is the stalk and programming all thats needed.

yes plus the washer bottle warning signal needs to be earthed out or the low warning light will stay on

I have 57 plate S line SE with DIS.

I undertand that you have the computer 1 and computer 2.
Computer 1 is for one journey (resets after 2 hours of inactivity)
Computer 2 will keep running until reset.

My computer 1 doesn't seem to reset after two hours!! I've just left it over night and still shows yesterdays journey!!

Anuyone else had this?

Cheers

I started the engine but it didn't reset . . . . maybe I'm jumping the gun a bit. I'll check again when I go for a drive. . . .

Cheers

Yep reset after I set off . . . . any excuse for a drive. Although once I said I was going for a drive my mum wanted to come, then when I got back my dad wanted a go. So what was going to be a 5 min job took a little longer.
