Replacing mirror (led) indicators?

Anyone any ideas how to go about replacing the led indicator part of my nearside mirror on a 54 Passat? Is the unit servicible or a complete replacement job? Thanks for any help.

I have seen them on ebay, the lens with LEDs mounted within and a short lead with a plug on the end.
