Chaps,

I am having issues with the dual zone climate control, and before the car goes into the garage, just checking to see if anyone has any thoughts, pointers for the garage etc.

Basically, after driving for 15 to 20 mins, the climate control goes to sleep. What happens is that all the vents shut off, but the fan keeps running. Last summer in the hot weather, which day was it now, the fan obviously detects the increase in cabin temperature, and speeds the fan accordingly. However there are no vents open for the air to come out of. This is happening in full Auto mode. Switching to manual, and select each vent in turn, or indeed the windscreen demist, results in nothing different, the vents will not open.

It takes 5 mins withe the engine off, and then it will be fine again for 15 mins or so. The garage looked at it last year, and basically said there are no error codes on the computer - advise the customer how it works. Doh!

So any suggestions? I did notice before all this happened, something rolling around behind the dashboard. Going round roundabouts, something would rush from one side to the other, and back again, but that has long since stopped, and nothing has dropped onto the floor.

I note from the Touran forum, someone else had the same issue, but no responses. So its over to you, more knowledgable chaps to help. I need something to suggest to the muppets at the garage before the 11th.

Thanks for any advice/suggestions.

PS - The same issue happened in the rain on a pre-xmas booze cruise. After getting in the car slightly damp, I then struggled all for 150 miles on the motorway, unable to keep the windscreen demisted - very dangerous.

Iirc I read on Vortex there was an issue with the condenser or suchlike icing up which blocked off the incoming airflow. There was a fix - replace it or piping or re-reroute - I can't remember, sorry! Might be worth braving their crappy search function.

Thanks Drash - Tried searching but acheived nothing. I'll give it another go, but failing that will mention to the garage on the 11th.

Thanks for your help

Have you checked the Pollen Filter is not blocked with dead leaves etc ?

We had a very similar problem with our old 2004 Focus Estate and the Filter thing was gunged up with dead leaves !

If you look at VW's new website, there is a section on the Climate control. It says something along the lines of " the computer that controls the Climate control, senses the conditions such as temparature, humidity etc it can even tell if the sun is shining, and controls it all"

I hope this helps.

I would hope the garage has checked that. Anyway, the fact that after 5 mins of no engine, it works again, I would think would preclude that.

The garage has ordered a new Evaporator temperature sensor, as the symptoms match that sensor being faulty. However, computer says no fault!!

I guess technicians these don't have to think what the fault is.

Baiscally taken it in three time and get told "computer says no"

Was this fixed when the sensor was replaced??

smudger116a, I'd try another dealer. If they've got no one alive from the neck up (even the Master Tech.!!) they're not worth your time.

:D Keep that reply handy Gamichea, you could probably use it somewhere in most of the threads on here...

I have a 55 plate Touran sport 2.0l diesel. I have the same issue with the climate control in that it stops cooling after a period of 30 mins and restarts after another period eg another 30 mins. Sometimes switching between functions seems to help. The car has been regassed but that does not solve the problem. A colleague with another Touran has the same issue.

Anyone found an answer?
