Hi,

I apologise for my ignorance as I havent had the car that long and still picking info up.

I have a 2003 1.9 Passat TDI Sport, currently done 85000 miles, last serviced at 79000 on the longlife service.

The oil level appears to be quite low, no indicators on yet but would like to top it up. Ive seen some Fully Synthetic 5w/40 oil at Halfords and wondered if that would be ok to use. It appears to be ok for PD engines (505.01 etc), but doesnt mention 506.01, other option is 5w/30 fully synthetic which is expensive from the ones Ive seen - the alternative from the dealership is incredibly expensive...

Any help would be greatly appreciated as Im confused on all the options and ratings available.

Mike.

The two oils you mention are correct for the PD.
The 505.01 is only for fixed-interval sevicing.
The 506.01 is for the longer variable servicing, it can also of course be used for fixed servicing, but is more expensive.

Halfords oil is cheap on bank holidays, this oil was half price on August bank holiday, so I bought two, despite having lots at home already :Blush2: .

You can get the quantum one from Skoda dealer, or Eurocarparts do a cheap one too.

Thanks for the info, trying to work out whether to keep it on the longlife servicing schedule or to switch to the fixed interval schedule - do about 16k miles/yr mix of motorway and A roads....probably better on longlife service but perhaps as its getting older maybe better to have a more regular service - dont quite know what to do yet..or I could just read through the Haynes manual and do it myself....:o

Can the 5w/40 oil mentioned be mixed with the 506.1 oil which I am presuming is in there from the last full longlife service without any issues?
