2007 Passant wagon delivered 01/30/07. Traveled Birmingham AL to Boston MA late April and by end of trip CEL illuminates and stays on. VW dealer. Dealer adjusts filler cap, CEL goes out and stays out till Oct. 07, then starts to come on at intervals. Early Dec. the CEL stays on all the time and we were ready to start the 1500 mile drive back to Birmingham. VW Dealer diagnoses problem as outside spec fuel pressure reading caused by a defective pressure sensor. Ordered part would take several days so dealer suggested it would be ok to start our trip and have the service done at out home dealership. 12/27/07 local dealer finds the problem fixed by "fiddeling" with gas cap and it should be ok now. CEL turns on during trip home and stays on. Return to dealer on 01/10/08 and leave vehicle for as long as it takes to fix problem. Get car on 01/23/08 with new fuel module and new fuel pump. Drive 1/2 mile CEL turns on. Return to dealar arrange to return on 01/28/08 but they are sure there is no real problem and it is ok to travel. 01/26/08 start a 70 mile trip and fill gas tank then within a mile there is a sickening heavy smell of gasoline in the cabin. Return to dealer who can't do anything on Sat return on Mon 01/28/08 leave vehicle. Still there today 02/01/08

Time to get in touch with VW America perhaps?

Hopefully they're giving you a courtesy car?
