I'm new to TDI engines but on my daily commute can do a lot at 60mph with stop & start at each end of journey.
If I put it in 6th the computer suggests better economy but I'm unsure if this is good for engine (less than 2000 revs) I've read that you should keep it around 2000? Do I save 6th for motorways?
Thanks if you have any thoughts.

I have the 2.0 tdi engine. I can potter around quite happily in 6th at 30mph / 1000 rpm.

very economic.

I have read that it's not great for the turbo as it doesn't spool up enough to oil itself properly until around 1750 revs. However, I think your probably OK and as suggested it does give very good economy. Have a look at the FAQ on www.tdiclub.com for loads of advice about these engines - most of which relates to the MK4 Golf TDIs but which must be relevant as the base technology hasn't changed much.

1800rpm is a good cruise speed for TDIs. It's kind of high enough to be kind to the turbo/engine, yet not high enough to be raucous.

For cruising I would tend to use (estimated revs for speed)

30mph - 4th gear @ 1500rpm
40mph - 5th gear @ 1500rpm
50mph - 5th gear @ 1800rpm
60mph - 6th gear @ 1900rpm
70mph - 6th gear @ 2100rpm (ish)
80mph - well.... I never go above the speed limit, m'lud. ;)
