Alternator warning message

Hi All

My 52 TDI Sport bleeped an 'Alternator Workshop' error message the other day but hasn't come back? Anyone had problems of this before. Sounds to me like the beginning of the end for the alterantor?

Mines done that yesterday but it staid on. The pulley that sits on the shaft of the alternator had clapsed internally and fell of the shaft. With you it may be your tensioner going, i have been told to look down on it and make sure it's sitting square with the belt, also give it a push down to see how much tension is in it as it may be on the way out. I was in a hurry to get it fixed, ie fixed within a couple of hours and the only place that had the part and would fit straight away was an alternator shop so i opted for a recon alternator with new pulley fitted to it £90 plus £20 fitting.
