Hello,

new member here.

I'm looking to buy a mk5 Golf after ten years of mk3 ownership. I would be grateful for any advice with regard to problem areas and specifications to look out for. I'm thinking about a 1.6SE five door probably about 05 or early 06. I will be buying from an approved from a VW main dealer

I have some specific questions; What is the service interval on these cars and do they require a cam belt change? Also, can you deactivate the passenger airbag with a key in the same way as an Audi?

Advice and tips greatfully received.

passenger airbag - yes.

optional extras to look for.

centre arm rest (cd / mp3 housed within)

radio if the button to the left of the cd slot says 'mix' on it - you have a single cd, if it says 'load' you have a 6 cd.

under seat draws (front only)

not being a 'GT' it won't have lower suspension but it should have cruise.

I think the standard size wheel is 15", compare to others on show, if they are bigger than the others on show, then i'm wrong or they were specified when new or added later.

these are what i'd look for any way.

Many thanks.

You are correct about the 15" wheels.
