Been reading alot of threads on this forum in general. Some posts complain of turbo problems. I have a 1.8t. Should i be 'feeling' the turbo at a certain point?

I find it pulls away quick enough although a little slugish in 1st and 2nd but most of its power comes in 3rd & 4th gear. I never 'feel' any turbo kicking in as such...

It has been serviced recently, right?

It's service is due in March, but it's always been like that. I'm not complaining about it, it performs well enough but i never feel any 'turbo' as such imo, should the turbo kick in at a certain amount of revs?

I would have thought you'd feel a big kick around 2200 RPM, but maybe the quattro changes the cars characteristics, as its putting power to the rear aswell.

Ok, i'm not sure of my bhp? i remember the guy i bought it off saying that it could be chipped. How can i find out my bhp? had a browse through my documents but can't spot it anywhere. I'm pretty sure he said it could be chipped to 190 which would mean mine is less, but i could be wrong.

Perhaps sluggish was a bit of an exageration. I had a puma 1.7 before this and it flew off the mark, or perhaps it just felt like that because of the size.

I drove a 2.0 basic audi before i found my one and it was slow as hell imo.

The A4 is a lot heaver than the Puma though, it was based on a Fiesta after all!! Your bhp figure can be ascertained by looking at the sticker in the front of your service book, look for a number followed by KW, which is the output in Kilowatts. 1bhp = 0.7457kw meaning the 150bhp variant should say 110kw, 163bhp variant should say 120kw & the 190bhp variant wasnt out in 2001! They can indeed be chipped succesfully but you'll only know the true output by sticking it on a rolling road. You shouldnt be noticing a kick as such when the turbo kicks in, it will just keep accelerating nice & strongly as opposed to the 2.0 which you no doubt discovered struggled a bit more accelerating.

I thought this must be the case, thanks. I only started to doubt as i can remember rs turbos making a loud hiss type sound when the turbo kicked in.

Thanks for the info on bhp, indeed mine is 110 kw ie 150 bhp. I dont have any desire for it to be chipped, but useful info cheers :beerchug:

Find the 0-60 time for your car on the internet, you may find it on parkers or something. Maybe time yourself the next time a boy racer pulls up at the lights in their Corsa! Your call though.

your car is the same as mine, 110KW/150 hp and with the 4wd it's not a quick car! I had a Puma before my A4 too funnily enough..
The turbo is low-pressure so works from really low down so the re's no big kick like some turbos, especially diesels.
What fuel consumption do you get BTW? I get about 28.. poor when the old Puma did 37! Hey ho..!

lol, i loved my puma! quick, looked good, and economical. Sold it as needed bigger motor for family. Yeah, i agree the fuel consumption is a bit naff, she's a thirsty bugger but love her none the less, even though she has cost me over a grand last month, 4 new tyres, clutch and ecu temp' sender fault.

I still think the A4 is quick, well, compared to the standard 2.0 a4 i tested.

Thanks for the info re turbo ;)

Do you know what the 0 - 60 is?
