Hi, I'm new, my recently aquired 2000 estate 120000 miles has a tailgate alarm fault, if I unlock the car(two presses on the key unlock button) and then go and open the tailgate the car locks itself after about 20 seconds and the alarm is activated, however if I open say, the drivers door first then the tailgate all is ok.
A golf driver and ex alarm fitter has run simple tests using the key in the door ect and cannot see why the problem exists.
Mine is a two button key.
Any help would be much appreciated.

It sounds like it diesn't know you opened the tailgate, so relocks. (This is what it does if you don't open tailgate such as if you accidently unlock car when fidgetting in y our pocket)

Also, if you unlock and open just the tailgate and close it, it will also lock itsself after a short while.

I hate all this dumbed-down nonsense, and when I get a laptop, will try and disable it with VAGCOM.

Does the luggage compartment light come on when you open it?
Also, try opening tailgate, and then get in and turn ign on and start car, it should say LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT OPEN on the FIS display.

I know passats have a 30 second entry after the key activation. Its a security feature that if you don't put the key in the ignition or something then the doors lock and the alarm goes of. mine only works when it wants to though.

Does your passat beep occasionally when you lock it. Mine beeps the horn once in a blue moon.

Noticed that if I unlock the drivers door (one key press) and then don't get in for a min or so it does lock the door again. Not sure if the alarm is armed though.
