Hi All

I've just taken ownrship of a 52 Passat Sport TDI Estate which has an old Nokia 6310i car kit. Since taking it down to my local carphone shop they have confirmed that there is little I can do to upgrade it and will need to have a new one of which I don't really do enough driving to warrent paying for so I need to remove it.

The connector for the phone cradle sits between the climate control trim and the dash. Before hacking away at the trim has anyopne had any experince with removing this part of the console? I was going to get a flat edge and try to ease the trim out which I guess will free up the climate control unit so I can get at the bracket to remove the phone cradle? The wire also passes under the main unit? Assuming the climate control console easily comes out will I be able to get to the phone unit wire connection to release that too? Or is there another way that I havent thought of?

Or should I leave it to the professionals?

Best Regards

Chazzy

Dont know if this helps but you can get aftermarket converters that will give you a greater choice of modern phones to fit - assuming the kit u have is a Cark-91 which is what the 6130 uses - This is a link to them for £12.99 on e bay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CARK-91-POP-PORT-CONVERTER-CRADLE-for-NOKIA-6021-6230i_W0QQitemZ300035429514QQihZ020QQcategoryZ2034 6QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I had the kit in my old Golf V5 and actually bought a 6130i for the car and found out what a superb phone it is and why so many business people still use them even though it lacks fancy graphics etc- On the odd occasion i was called in the car it was invaluable and i ended up dumping my newer Sagem Phone as the Nokia was so superior

Wish i had one in my Passat Sport! - Cheers Mark

Also check out dashmount.co.uk I saw something on there similar the other day which maybe of help.

BTW when I watched my car kit being fitted a while back, they took out the radio first, then the CD player then the climatronic. i.e. they worked from the top down. You will need radio keys for this.

You may find also that you need to remove the glovebox. basically there are about 5-7 torx screws visible in front of you when you open the glovebox. Take these out and be very careful removing the light, I broke mine and it's a bit of a pig not to. This gives you far easier access, you may get away without removing this, just depends on how they routed the wires.

Just take it easy removing things and if like me you get concerned just stop, doesn't cost anything to try.

Another alternative is to buy the nokia bluetooth car kit, the speaker, and mike will be the same, you just have to swap the black box, remove the cradle, and run the control button somewhere convenient on the dash. I would guess that the power and other cables are all the same so it should be an easy swap.

Good luck.
