are useless ... :zx11::zx11::zx11::zx11:

The issue is transfering my phonebook from my WM6 Smartphone to my Passat using the integrated bluetooth kit.

They tell me that WM6 devices (and Blackberry's) are not suitable devices. How hard can it be for them to to sort out the programming on the car kit so that it doesn't create a new user everything you add a new phone?

They are useless, and clearly have no idea on their products.

Such a glaring omission ... ARGH! :mad::mad::mad:

Very interesting - may I ask what phone it is? Because I'm planning on getting a Kaiser II, but am holding out to make sure it works with the car I have on order.

HTC TyTN II, same thing IIRC?

The system in the Passat is designed by Nokia, so is best with Nokia and some Siemen's apparently.

I am now looking at getting a 6300 for my day to day communication, and chucking in a spare simcard into the HTC for email purposes. Much cheaper than a 3G card.

Yup - you're right, Kaiser was the codename for the Tytn II, my bad.

I don't have a newish phone or the car at the moment, but if you can get it to work, there should be a menu in the settings for SAP, which if new enough has a setting for 'Remote SIM mode', which apparently is what you need to get the two talking properly.

Can I also ask - do you have the highline trip computer? It's because as the TDi SEL doesn't seem to come with it, and I haven't ordered the Sat Nav, I fear that I'll have to go through all of my contacts with a unusably small screen... This is despite my dealer telling me that it would come with the highline.

The HTC does have rSAP but you can't transfer the phonebook over to the phone, meaning that either you can put the numbers in yourself or just use it for receiving calls. As each new phone needs a new "user" you can use one already loaded.

I don't know if I have the highline, all I know that is that I can alter a lot of functions on the car, how long the lights stay on when leaving and coming home etc. My old Nokia worked excellently, even having copying across contacts where multiple numbers were stored, so home, work, mobile etc, with appropriate icons.

This was my solution to get my HTC TyTN II to work FULLY with the Premium Phone Prep:

1. Pair the TyTN II to the car (Nokia HT-2) phone.

2. Switch car ignition OFF and switch off TyTN II.

3. Remove SIM from TyTN II.

4. Place SIM into a compatible phone (in my case Nokia N95).

5. Switch on N95, switch on Bluetooth, switch on Remote SIM access.

6. Change the Bluetooth ID name on the N95 to the same as the TyTN II.

7. Make phone discoverable via Bluetooth.

8. Switch on car ignition - car phone will not be able to connect.

9. Using car controls search for new device.

10. When N95 is found, select connect, it will use the same user profile as the TyTN II (if you selected the same name for the Bluetooth ID).

11. On the car browse to Settings - Phonebook - Update, this will then import all your contacts from your N95 (or compatible phone).

12. Switch off ignition and switch off N95.

13. Replace SIM back to TyTN II.

14. Ensure TyTN II Bluetooth is ON, Remote SIM is ON and the phone is Discoverable.

15. Switch on car ignition - car phone will not be able to connect.

16. Using car controls search for new device.

17. When TyTN II is found, select connect, it will use the same user profile as before.

18. Now browse the car Phonebook as normal - All your contacts are now available for you to use.

19. Don't forget to turn off discoverability on the TyTN II and to rename your compatible phone (N95) to prevent any future conflicts.

Well done- but that's hardly a 'premium' experience. I understand that it still won't sync contacts other than those stored to the sim as well.

It looks like I won't be able to have the same functionality as my MDA Vario without paying over £500 for a Nokia E90 sim-free. (not available on T-mobile)

VW better pay some of this, otherwise I'm heading for a £1100 car kit...

I know what you mean - I am waiting information through my main dealer as to whether there is a software upgrade, because on another forum where I have been trying to get this issue sorted out, a member has a TyTN II fully working in a Audi A3 since he had a software update on the car.

I will keep you informed of the outcome. (If any!)

Sorry to re-awaken a long dead thread, but I bring good news! I'd found a program out on the internets called SAPSettings (at least that is what it shows up as on my T-mobile Vario I), and this allows perfect paring with my Passat, albeit only transferring SIM-stored numbers across.

I'm sorry, I really can't remember where I found the app, but I'd start looking at XDA-developers first.

David.
