hello chaps/esses - i have a new 57 passat 2.0tdi se & im beginning to hate it!

please make me love it somebody - surely i must be imagining all the bad points.
i like the comfort & power, plus it's got an excellent stereo & is very spacious, but omg, who decided to do away with the handbrake :/

hill starts / lights on hills are a pain in the butt.
im sick to death of it stalling on me & having to come to a complete halt before i can restart the engine, amid beeping horns & irate commuters behind me making obscene gestures at the car.

i cant beleive it uses so much oil!! - it's like 2ml per mile!!!
i used to drive a 26ft long bus with a ford v6 @ 170k miles & it used less oil.

good points - it's nippy, quiet & big.
bad points - everything else :(

really wished i'd gone for the octavia, as after driving a m8's '57 skoda with same(ish) engine, i concluded that it's a vastly superior car to the passat.

never mind, maybe i should turn off the esp & let it skid into a lamp post, or not top the oil up & seize it up.

i really do urge ppl to shop around before deciding on 1 of these.

sorry if i upset die hard vw fans but this car ranks up along the worst ive owned, just slightly lagging behind my old fso :Blush2:

Sorry to hear about your car. I keep reading stuff about how bad Passats are. I don't think any of them built in the last 5 or 6 years are that good compared to other VAG cars.

I'm sure the Skoda and the passat have the same engine, well almost as the Octavia is based on a Golf where as the passat is the same as the A4/A6 and Superb.

Maybe one of the tech on here could shed some light on your issues:D

I'm sure the Skoda and the passat have the same engine,

they do indeed, but the octavia has a conventional handbrake & key to start it.
only drawback with the octavia is the much smaller boot - golf sized :o

I've had a few A4s, a 3-series, a V70, and I test drove the Passat estate and the Octavia.

I hate the fact there is no handbrake lever in the Passat and that was one of the reasons I didn't go for it. In fact I preferred the Octavia in almost every way apart from the badge.

I have stuck with a high mileage (148,000 mile) 4 year old A4 Avant instead of going into the company car scheme and getting a brand new Passat estate because the look and feel of the A4 is, IMO, much better.

So I feel your pain.

My sister had a passat that had tons of problems. Her experiences with the dealers were just as disappointing. After sending letter after letter to corporate they finally took her seriously and paid for over $2000 worth of work for items that just kept having problems. I forget all the details now, but it was nice to see them take some responsibility.

Onzarob, the Passat you are thinking of is the 3B, this chap has a 3C and these have a floorpan based on the Golf 5/Octavia 2 etc, not the A4/Superb.
