Hi there,
Santa has come early for me and I have just been bought a Tomtom 520 :approve:. Having looked on the Tomtom website I see they have a link to 'Proclip' a company who supply dash mount options in lieu of the standard window suction units. I was just wondering if anybody has used Proclip products before? I was looking to use the mount placed over the centre dash board air vent http://www.tomtom-proclip.com/?sectionpath=339&pageid=10156&processor=content&usermode=_wizard&pcategoryid=12885&categoryid=14047&year=2002&p_origin=339&p_sectionid=339&p_pageid=12938&p_processor=asp&p_asp_processor=product&p_action=proclipcategorysearch&p_ppagecategoryid=13872&p_pagecategoryid=14172&p_pcategoryid=12885&p_categoryid=14047&p_sitecategoryid=&p_year=2002&wizard=&step=2&cartstep=3&siteid=

Proclip's install guide shows the vent being eased out to enable a snap fitting of the mounting plate .............. not too convinced if this is as good a method as being claimed :(. Therfore I'm wondering if any one else has come across this before and if it has worked OK.
Cheers
Jeff

I've got a Brodit Proclip (for a VW Golf) and all I can say is it's the biggest waste of money I've done & you can do, for £40+ you get two pieces of ABS plastic which attach to your car with a bit of a struggle, which not only spoilt the look of it, but blocks the air vent, it looks horrid, it invariably doesn't give you the correct angle for viewing the TTG and if you want the piece to angle it correctly it costs you another £13 for another piece of ABS plastic in wedge form of either 10 or 15°. :zx11: Yet another rip-off! :zx11::zx11:

Do yourself the biggest favour and don't buy it, it's a rip-off of the highest order, it aesthetically displeasing, it's exceptionally poor VFM, so stick with the TTG windscreen mount or if you really do want to take the TTG off of the screen then have a look at this one from carcomm (http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/carcomm-tomtom-x20-cradle-a1966.php), but personally I wouldn't bother.

Thanks Wazza G,
Not what I wanted to hear, but on reflection you are totally right. It's a lot of money to fork out for some bits of ABS plastic. I reckon I could live with it across the air vent but I suppose I ought to give the screen mount a fair trial first. BTW once the proclip is snapped into position is it easy to remove? The phrase 'snaps into position' says to me it could be a bit of a sod to remove?
Thanks :beerchug:

To add to this, i looked at the product for the golf 5, the image shown is not that of a golf 5:confused:

Hi Jeff.

You are completely correct when you say it's a bit of a sod to remove, it took me nearly 15' to remove that b***dy thing from my Golf... :zx11:

And that was with a lot of pushing, pulling & twisting!

It's currently residing in the glovebox, until such time as I decide what to do with it! :mad:

I'm tempted to have a look at the carcomm version of the TTG mount, but that's £50+, but it does look more solid.

I think I'll do some more investigation into it, before buying it though.

I have had a few TOMTOM's over the years now and i fine the windscreen mount to be the best, the best place to put it i find is in the centre of the screen so the base of the mount is approx 2 inch off the dash..

This gives you full view compared to putting to the right of the dash cluster like some people do..

I used to have a dash mount for a PDA and that has knacked you the vent.. ie.. when i putt the blower of fast into the cabin the vent flipps up.;
