Hi,

For the sake of fuel economy, I'm thinking of trading in my 4.2 S6 for a manual 2.5 TDI. Yes, I know 2.5 is a little greedy on fuel compared to the 1.9, but it'll be amazing compared to my current MPG!

I have read many posts about problematic 2.5 TDI's so I thought I'd conduct this poll:

Have you ever had any ENGINE problems with your 2.5 TDI ?

I'd be grateful if you could post details of your engine troubles, how they were rectified and how much it cost!

Many thanks in advance :beerchug:

hi mate i bought a 2.5 tdi quattro sport avant back in september my previous car was a 2.8 petrol a6 avant the fuel economy is brilliant in comparason but like most cars if you are flying about all over it uses plenty. if you use it for what it is intended for a to b motoring its great with the knowledge that if you want to have some fun or overtake in a hurry then you can. you wont be disapointed but it will probably feel a bit slugish after what you are used to mine did but i have got used to it now and i love it just make sure its got a full service history and if its approaching 80.000 make sure the timing belts been done if not you could be looking at a £500 to £600 bill happy motoring

Hi There

I have an A4 2.5 v6 diesel quattro. It has had a few bits and pieces that have needed doing to it.

It has to be said though none of those were engine or transmission related. just the usual electrical ghosts/sensors/motors, which are common to the whole range.

In general they seem to be a fairly bullet proof engine if well looked after.

No problems with the engine on my 2.5TDi....get a "Quattro Sport" version with plenty of kit on it, put RS6 18" alloys and an RS4 Anti Roll Bar on the back and enjoy !

The only gloom on the horizon is the cambelt change - which is recommended at 80K miles....my car being 4 yrs old and 32K miles on it, I will probably be getting it changed in Q2 next year - at a cost of £400 to £500 - grizzle !
Only advice I can offer on buying a high miler 2.5 TDi is haggle them down £500 if the belt has NOT been changed.
