Hi all, turns out the luck i had with my previous Audi has just run out on this ONE.
Its covered a meer 150,000 miles (only 900 by me) as oposed to my last petrol that was approaching the 250,000 milestone.
Since i had it, it always had a distinct top end rattle when i switched off, then one day i started it after a short stop( talking minutes) and it started to miss like a delinquent school child.
needless to say i didn't try it again untill i investigated, thought the belt had slipped a few teeth at first, but when i checked it all seemed to time up fine and the tension was good, then as i was looking thru tho oil cap for the cam mark, i noticed something out off place, on removal of the top cover (L/H bank) the problem was clear, several cam followers had de-seated themselves, fully.
thought i'd check the opposite bank and sure enough the same problem, i think there was 9 in total.
on inspection they were extremly worn, but now the cams are also damaged by the hyd lifters contacting them.
what i don't get is why did this happened out of the blue, i had just covered 100 miles sweet. either way it has, is this kind of wear on the followers and seats known on this particular engine, some of the seats were worn almost all the way thru to the top of the valve stem.
i have just ordered the new parts, ouch!!
what i need now is some advice on the timing/ fitting of the new cams. obviously the 2 outers are locked by there respective plates, its how do i time the inner gear driven cams, is there a special setting tool, is done by dti readings???
if anyone knows, or knows were i can lay my hands on an engine manual for this model i would be most gratefull, do any of you work or know someone at a dealer that has access to this kind of info, i tried my local dealer but was directed to the booking in desk, can't afford that i'm afraid. and all my contacts have since left. sorry for going on but its cold now and 4 wheels is preferrable to 2. really hope someone can help, it won't go unrewarded, i promiss.
