Most audi's don't use power steering fluid. Is you cap green ?

If so you need a special VAG mineral fluid.

ATF fluid will cause seals to fail and need a new steering rack !

VAG mineral oil is about £7 for a litre.

Yep, lonky is correct, you should be only using Audi, VW, SEAT, SKODA oil for the hydraulic system and power assisted steering. Part no. G 002 000, and i am pretty sure its green in colour.

Just to re inforce what was said above,it will cause pump and/or rack failiure to use the wrong fluid.
The right stuff isnt much different in price anyway

Yeah use the green vag fluid for sure. I mucked up big time on my a4 while topping up my brake resevoir and poured 100ml of hydraulic fluid into the power steering resevoir by mistake !!! I managed to drain the system without damage to the rack and pump, ( i hope ) and refilled with the right fluid, only thing is the resevoir only took 500 mls to fill. any one know what the capacity of the system is. the guy at audi sold me 2 litres of the stuff ! only £14 mind so not complaining. my car is the a4 130 bhp 1.9 tdi 2002.

thanks chris.

Don't know what the capacity is for certain but mine took about half a litre from empty too
