watch me put the stuff in the car on youtube.com . under biofuel

Bit Late in the day i am, but i have tried my 2001 passat pd100 on svo, and i have to agree. If i didn't know better the engine was quiter and i think slightly more responsive. Now looking to do a duel tank job on it and then think about wvo. Who need Diesel!!!! Only problem is the goverment. Duty has to be declared on any road going fuel.

Guys, Diesel engine was intended to run on peanut oil. Diesel fuel its just a byproduct of refining the petrol. Of course it runs better/cleaner on vegetable oil but it starts a bit more difficult when cold as oil does not mists(sprays) as well as diesel ! Do a search on tdi.club.com as the yankees are doing it for years ! Would not advise using it on PD engines as they more likely to break and vw wont touch the pumps and injectors if it founds out.

I've read allot about this and the biggest issue is the viscosity of vegetable oil compared with Diesel. On rotor pump diesel engines the diesel acuatlly cools the pump so when running with veggie oil, which is thicker ,the seals tend to get hotter and cause them to fail quicker, so it may work, but not for long. PD engines are allot more refined and there can be issue with the injectors clogging and failing after a shorter period. (very expensive)
Basically a diesel should run fine on veggie oil but don't expect components to have the same life as stated by the manufacturer as they been tested on diesel only for life expectancy.
My opinion is you may save pounds using veggie oil, but that could be wipe out if the pump needs to be replaced.
On the other hand my dad runs his fiat 1.7d on 50/50 with no problems, and the bosch pump it hadss is said to have very poor reliability on veggie oil. But it only cost £500 and if it breaks its not a big deal!!!

If you want a good car to run on vegetable oil, buy an old mercedes 300d with indirect injection. They are no fussy but you may need to make shure the block heater works ok, otherwise it will start hard on cold mornings. Also, take it easy for the first hundreds of miles and its wise to blend it 50/50 as the pump seals may leak first...

That's excatly what my friend runs a 300d, the only thing is dont expect high performance, diesel or Vegatable oil!

So are you guys declaring this or not? Only reason I ask is that I've just bought a Passat S TDI 90hp for commuting and tbh, the cheaper the better ;)
Any recommended brand of veggie oil ;) :)

hi all, after all the comments and carefull thought i have decided to abandon the idea of running my 2001 passat se pd 100 on veg oil. instead i have purchased a 10 yr old diesel fiesta with a bosch pump. this is now going to be my lab-rat and i'm doing a twin tank job on it shortly. the passat is now going to run on either diesel, or a blend of bio-diesel.
cheers:beerchug:

Veggie oil and PD engines arnt the best combination due to the injectors and unknown reliablity with the slighty thicker oil, basically at £400+ an injector it and expensive experiment!!!
On the declaring point, you register with HM Customs and declare what you used, so register and declare what you want;)

Regarding the pd vw engine, i have seen somewhere on the net, that the problem is this:
veg oil must be heated to be the same viscosity as diesel. but as the pd engine has a seperate pump for each injector, alot of heat is generated. normally the cooler diesel will take this heat away, but if you use heated veg oil, the heat builds up, thus the injectors fail. Big Big Problem.:beerchug:
