Fault codes ???

Hi Folks

I did a code check on my car (A4 2000, 2.5 AFB engine) , mostly for bits i knew about but it came up with:


1. 00792 Air con pressure switch F129

Air con hasn't worked in last 6 mths, but i put it down to a small leak that needed repairing.

Where is the switch located and what sort of price is it ?

2. 00287 Speed sensor rear right G44

Is it worth trying to dismantle and clean the rear sensor or just replace, the mechanic who does most of my stuff seems to reckon they are a pain to get out due to corrosion.

The switch is reading as a fault as the system has no pressure in it and you must not remove the switch without firstly having the system depressurised as it may have gas in it which could cause you serious cold burns if you get the gas on your skin. The ABS sensor is on the right rear hub carrier.

I had a garage depressurize the system a couple of months back, that was when we found out one of the pipes is leaking. At the time there was no mention of faulty switches though.

Is the switch easy to replace or am i better off getting a garage to do it. ?

The switch is easy to relatively to replace if it comes out without snapping off (I had that happen once) but I would not expect you to need it, the reason it is showing as faulty is there is no pressure in the system. You could change it as a precaution (PM me your chassis number and email address if you want the details) but I hardly ever see them go faulty.
