Hey guys,
Someone kindly demolished my gate, reinforced concrete posts and fence before making off. The police haven't even come round so I'm doing some investigating on my own first (I'll hassle them if they haven't bothered by tomorrow still, it happened on Friday).
It's a VERY hard hit, I'm surprised the car drove away. Bits of headlamp, bumper, underbody, wheel arch, mudflaps are all left behind and the damage went around 20ft before someone piled it up neatly due to parts of it blocking pavement where they reversed out I think dragging stuff with it.
Anyhow on one of the bits, a grey/blue silver (similar to the Skoda Stone Grey Met 9151) side or cover to a bumper, I managed to get this part number:
Part Number 8E0 853 888 A Wheel spoiler, right front
I used ETKA 3,4 to get the above info but I can't see how to find out what model it's from. It comes up with no picture/price/anything, just wheel spoiler right front.
On the parts 'Germany' is present and several 'Audi' symbols, but no VW symbols that I can see. There is a date stamp saying 06 but it's too small for me to make out the month.
Can anyone help me identify the car accurately please? I need to know what possible type and years and what the colour would be (there will only be one blue/grey silver met for that year I'm sure). The damage was done in Nottingham and if it's a stolen car, or a drunk driver, I may be able to claim off them. I don't see why I should pay out myself (excess on house insurance) for what someone did in hit and run, the car will be WELL damaged and shouldn't be too hard to trace for the cops if I give them this info.
Pics of the sorry state attached, thanks in advance! Greg.

I should add I think it's an A4 hence the post here, due to a google search on the part no., however I can't find a way to confirm it.
Audi A4, 2002 - 2007.
Your date stamp means the part was made in 06. So it's either an 06 or an 07 or it's a new part on an older car.
Using www.vagcat.com it comes up as;
8E0853888A wheel spoiler right front.
That's in the A4/Avant 2005 section.
Sorry for your misfortune too :(
WELL DONE so far. I hope you catch the scum who did this. I would like to offer my services as a vet (FREE) if you feel the need to torture them to within an inch of death:approve:

The above is spot on...
I would go do a bit of driving around looking for the car!!
it has to be somewhere!!
Rick
First it looks like a residential area so probably a local driver
Mention the accident to as many folk as possible and dont forget to ask your Postman/Woman, Refuse collector if your up early enough, they do cover a lot of ground
PS take your camera as a picture of the damaged car is what you really need
All the best in your search

It might also be worth popping into your local audi dealer, to see if somebody has order a replacement wing, or paint ..... or the colour paint....
Worth a try

Yeah its one option... but they are not disclosed to tell you... DPA.
I would just keep your eyes open and hunt around..
But i cant see the car been broken for long....
Your other option is to go around your local body shop's asking for quotes for some damage you have and check out their workshops :biglaugh: .. or even just drive about checking out their carparks....

An interesting one, you should have a decent chance of tracking them down.
1. Any decent bodyshop will be able to match the paint so no help there.
2. The body parts will surely have to come from the most local Audi dealer (I dont think anyone will make copy parts for these) All dealers have a list of all parts they have ordered going back at least 3 years.
So might be worth a trip to see if they have supplied the parts recently or if there bodyshop has requested them from the parts dept.
Now for a little artisitic licence, if you wish. If they have supplied the parts but won't tell you the details (I doubt they will) then at least they might give you the nod that they have a recent or pending enquiry on the parts. They should also from there computer be able to tell you if any have been requested by any other dealerships from the main warehouses.
Good luck

Thank you VERY much guys for your replies so far. I will keep the thread updated as to what happens.
Can anyone help me out with the colour? Now we know it's an 06/07 A4 audi, there can't be that many in a grey/blue/steel silver met. It's darker and more coloured than the standard silver (which can look white in the right light) and very similar to the stone grey met Skoda colour. I'm certain there will be only one colour like this, does anyone have an Audi brochure or colour chart for that year on an A4?
Greg.

Good plan with trying to identify them from the local dealer but as usual in good old "fairplay" "I know my rights" britain, they can't disclose the information to you as a third party, even if you've suffered damage and I'll bet if there was nobody hurt the law won't give a stuff either.
Probably, if you can find the car parked, you could try and ring the police to see if the broken bits fit the jigsaw.
Might be worth checking local breakers as well.
Good luck hope you find them

Yes you are!!!! But it's an A4...
Will the colours still be the same? It's NOT a light silver as it's a darker bluey/grey silver, so that narrows it a bit.
Help appreciated, all being well the cops are coming down today and I'll be able to present them with some information.
Greg.

Thanks for that. Latest update, two weeks in, is that after 3 calls and messages, the Police still haven't bothered to call me let alone visit. So the gate is still a pile of rubble and I doubt any 'investigation' is going well since they haven't even bothered to pick up the info that I deduced.
I'll post again when I know more as I'm going to write to the Cheif Constable of Nottinghamshire today. This is the 6th vehicle related crime for me, all with 0% solve rate by the police.

At least their consistant :)
Good luck
Nick
Its all to do with figures
clear up 10 easy crimes instead of spending more time trying to solve something a bit more difficult. If the police had the registration of the offending vehicle it would be an easy result.
Also crimes that involve ABH, GBH etc get more priority in general so this is low priority.
NOT VERY PUBLIC SPIRITED AT ALL:zx11:

Latest update - nothing. 15 days in and no call from the police. Large recorded letter went into the Cheif yesterday, highlighting problems with the area as well as handling of this incident. Will update.....

good luck with that, had a similar experience myself a couple of months ago, had a card from plod saying, sorry you've been a victim of crime, are enquiries are now complete.
I went to the station and said "can you tell me what enquiries have been completed?"
They replied none
I then said "How can your enquiries you've undertaken be complete when no enquiries have taken place in the first place?
Apparently it's a stock letter, well no surprise there but I don't blame plod, I blame the politicians.
Even when they do get caught nothing happens.
A drunken scrote kicked my wife's door mirror off, a local bobby caught him, he did £340 damage, the court ordered him to pay just £75 which didn't cover the insurance excess and to boot he's not even paid the £75.
Small wonder the cops morale is so low.
