M reg Passat was bought from VW dealer about a year or so old so some time ago now. All windows worked fine then. About 2 yrs later the rear ones started playing up ie the internal switches not working all the time, child lock was disengaged, and would not work via front controls either. Both the rear ones then packed up altogether, not working from any internal switch. Took it to VW who told me they needed 2 new motor units at something like £350 each! I pointed out that all windows ie including rear ones worked when turning key from outside for a couple of seconds in either unlock direction and all windows open and in lock direction vice versa – a feature of the car as you know, so cannot be motors.
Now front drivers window mostly does not work from switch and is getting worse and I cannot really live with that. Still goes up & down using outside locking though. I suspect that like rear it will finally pack up altogether. Does this not point to a dry joint, bad connection or just duff switch though??
Auto Engineer however eluded to a blocked pollen filter causing water to damage this control unit under seat somewhere! New control unit is about £600 so pray its not that. Area around pollen filter is as dry as dust and front passenger floor where control unit is meant to be is dry as well.
Any ideas people? TIA.
