Snow Tyres and Steel Wheels

Hi can anybody help me please :1zhelp:

I have a 2006 Mk 6 Vw Passat 1.9tdi estate (06), it has 16" alloy wheels with 215/55/16 tyres , Vw recommend that you do not fit snow chains on the wheels as it damages the alloy, they advise me that they do not do 16" steel wheels. :confused:

I have obtained a set of 15" steel wheels from a Mk 5 Passat which I have been advised will fit. Is it okay to fit these to my car and what size tyres should I fit to the 15" rims. Can anybody recommend a make of snowchains that would fit the new wheels.

Steel wheels are definitely available on the continent, it may just be VW UK who don't supply them.

You could maybe ask whoever told you they don't do steel wheels for the B6 Passat about getting some imported.

I can't help with snow chain recommendations though.
