So our car gave up on me last week, no throttle response and then wouldn't start. I had it plugged in to an ODB reader at work, and I'm sure he said crankshaft sensor not working, so I replaced it.
It still will not start, almost like it's not getting fuel. I've borrowed an Autel reader, and it's now showing P03400 - camshaft position sensor circuit. I have found the part on Euro car parts, but I cannot find the sensor on the car.
One would assume it's near the cam shaft toothed wheel, or at the rear of the engine, near the camshaft. I have used an endoscope camera, I have used my eyes, and I have used my fingers. Cannot find it for the life of me.
Am I correct in thinking I'm looking for a 3pin plug with a small length of wire attached to the magnet? Where is it? Is it hidden behind everything like the crankshaft sensor was or am I just being blind?

I probably should have said, 2011 Mk3 facelift, A6 Avant, 2.0 TDI, 134hp

16724/P0340 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40): Malfunction

The cam sensor won’t prevent it from starting and suggests it is working but picking up a timing error, usually wear in the inlet cam gear drive.
