Replacing Infotainment system - do I need to code ?

I have a MIB 2.5 fitted in my Mk7 and the headunit has failed. If I buy another one 2nd hand of course, it it a straight swap out ? I assume being the same model and type it would already be coded in or am I missing something ?

It has Component Protection and the VIN of the original car is locked inside the unit so this has to be matched to the car using the dealer system ODIS, I don't know of another way around this.
