06 2.0TDi not cranking.

Hi,
looking for ideas, my sons 2.0 tdi refuses to start . Engine does not crank nor does it sound like the solenoid is trying to engage (no clicking).
Any ideas where I should start looking?

Possibly a faulty ignition switch, does the dash light up and what is the VIN?

Hi Crasher, thanks for the reply.
I’ve been at it all day and have found that the starter motor is borked. No cranking off the engine with direct cables from a battery. New starter on the way tomorrow hopefully.

Bet it's Valeo "the new prince of darkness".

It's the old , original Bosch unit . Replacement will be a cheapie as the car may not get through another MOT.
