View Full Version : Turn Indicator in Instrument Cluster Flashing Erratically

Hi, I have a 2006 A4 Avant which has suddenly developed these strange faults:

When either turn indicator is on the exterior lamps flash at the correct frequency but the lights in the instrument cluster flash erratically. The same happens with the 'relay' clicking sound.
The head and side lights work as usual when the selector switch is turned but the corresponding lights don't show on the instrument cluster.
The background illumination of the instrument cluster and the air conditioning controls flicker and the brightness changes randomly.
The hazard warning light glows permanently when the ignition is switched off.
The battery drains if left overnight.

Despite all the above the car starts (when the battery is charged) and runs normally.
I've monitored the current draw when the ignition is off and it measures 3.67A. When I pull fuse 38 (I think this supplies the CCM) the current falls to 0.92A. I've checked under the carpet where the CCM is located and it appears to be dry.

Has anybody got any clue as to what's going on here and the likely cause?

Many thanks in advance.

0.92 is still too high, it sounds like a relay is sticking. What is the VIN and remind me tomorrow so I can look at the wiring diagrams.

Thanks, the VIN is WAUZZZ8E27A113807

Yes fuse 38 (called S238) is the convenience and alarm horn but where is the other drain coming from? If the convenience uint is dry and does this it can be the horn so disconnect it.

Thanks Crasher, I've disconnected the horn and there is no change to the lights flashing in the cabin (I've not had a chance to check on the current draw).

What controls the illumination of the dash instruments, the radio and A/C controls and the controls on the door card? All of these are flashing randomly so I suspect whatever controls these is the problem.
