I thought I would pass on what I figured out.
error above
Turned out to be a broken male fakra connector on the passenger side GSM antenna leading to water ingress and an open circuit.
39304
(antenna with female fakra connector/housing attached (lighter coloured strap still in place)
easy peasy right? just get a second hand GSM antenna (~£10-£30 ebay p/n 4M0035507)
problem is, the male part of the Fakra conenctor is integrated into the antenna, its made of ABS I think, which just slowly degrades as it wiggles up and down in the wet and road rash so it snapped off inside the female plug side when I tried to disconnect it and try as I may it was lodged inside and not coming out, not without frustration damage in trying to get it out with needle nose pliers etc...... drats.

>>>>important info<<<<
The part number for the Fakra female connector on the cable end is 4LO 035 576C (I did buy fresh ones... given... frustration damage mentioned above..), but this is just the outer housing, not the black inner sleeve, nor the weather shield, nor the actual metal crimp part, those part numbers aren't available at the parts centre, they are reserved for the technicians.... but... you can take the housing off and gain access and easily remove the broken bits lodged inside - yay.
When you lift the little integrated strap up from the top of the fakra housing (its a slightly lighter colour Burgundy ), you can pull off the Burgundy housing (with black inner sleeve) and you are left with the crimp (connector) and the blue silicon weather shield part (see pic)... then I was able to pull off the broken bit of the antenna stuck onto the female connector.
39306
(female connector housing with strap removed)
39305
(connector housing with strap removed, yet to be de-mounted from the metal connector)
39303
(naked female fakra connector with weather shield crimped onto the car loom - this inserts into the back of the burgundy fakra housing proceeded by a small black sleeve)
at this stage you can just clean all the connections, connect your new antenna with the metal female connector on its own, test and clear errors.
all going well, you can then re fit the Burgundy connector housing and push in the strap to fix the female plug back together as one (I sprayed some silicon on the inside of the housing and the outside of the antenna male part (not on the contacts)) to help it come off in the future.... (knowing that this will probably be a recurring 5 year failure) and snug everything back together.
job done, error gone. hope this helps.
