So I've had my A4 for 19 years, it's 21 years old, and I've put 150k miles on this car out the of the 200k miles its completed. All this time I've taken it to the same company who originally only dealt with VW/Audi's and it's been an enjoyable drive.
Anyway, it needed a Timing belt, water pump, lifter and full service, which it had on Monday. In addition there was a broken tensioner on the Aux belt, which has now resolved the jerky steering and squeaking in cold weather. but post the work, I drove the car home on Tuesday expecting to have the smile back after a service, as the car usually feels like it has a bit more spark. And it was not right at all. No turbo kicking in until 2200 RPM when I assume the exhaust gas helps the turbo to spin up, and the brake pedal went hard twice on the drive home.
Been back to the garage today, and we have now replaced the mechanical vacuum pump. Assumption was just bad luck despite it being fine on Monday when the car went in. It's an old car. So new Vacuum pump, and brakes are working normally now, the turbo is better, but it just still does not feel right. Don't feel like I can go back to the garage for a third time, you know what it is like they make you feel like it's fine and you don't know what you are talking about. But this is the 4th timing belt they have done on this car in the last 19 years, and after owning and driving the car for so long, you just know what feels right when you accelerate and it feels a bit flat, more now between 1800-2200 RPM the flat area and especially in 3/4th gear.
Not sure what to do? Any ideas? No faults in VCDS either.
