I need to get the brake pads replaced but struggling to find which ones I need to order. I read there was a code somewhere but don't have a service book or see any labels on the spare wheel.
When I put the car registration in on various sites, I get multiple options so have no idea which ones. Also, not sure if I need ones with sensors or not.
I know my car has some sort of sensor because the Brake Pad light is currently on.
/Edit: I found a list of codes near the spare wheel and after entering them on http://prsearch.planetvag.com these two entries seem like the relevant ones:
PRCode: 1LL = Disc brakes front
PRCode: 2EA = Disc brakes rear
Still not sure if I need pads with senors or not though.

U have a brake pad wear sensor on front and rear left side of ur car.
Your cars front front disc size are 356mm and rear (off the top of my head) are 320mm. All A7s have the same size rears from what I remember
I installed EBC slotted disc and EBC redstuff pads all round really happy with them.
then brought genuine sensors.

I don't believe I need to replace discs so just looking for new pads. Sounds like I need ones with sensors.

What is the VIN? With modern brakes, only replacing the pads is a very bad idea and something we refuse to do due to comeback complaints such as dull response and squealing.

Buy the pads u want and the sensors can be added. They don’t come built into the pad. There will be a 1 front and 1 rear

It's the sensor stuff which I found confusing. When searching for pads, the options were:
- inc wear warning contact
- prepared for wear indicator, exc wear warning contact
- not prepared for wear indicator
Does the existing sensor need to be replaced too? Which of the above would I need to get?

Do you have a brake warning light on ur dash? If you do them at least one of the two sensors have been triggered
U may only need to replace one, depending on which one has been triggered
Buy pads that come with sensors or that are prepared for sensors. That way u can buy sensors and fit them too

Yep, the light has been on for a few weeks now. I got the pads checked and both fronts and rears need replacing.
Right, I think you've answered what I was confused about. I need either inc wear contact ones or prepared ones but would have to buy sensors for the latter.
In terms of the pads themselves, do I just need to make sure the fronts are 1LL and rears 2EA?

Where are you buying them from. Most decent websites with just let you put ur reg number in and then shows u all the compatible pads or just make sure the fronts work with 356mm and rears 320mm

A friend of a friend works for Southern Motor Factors and gets a decent discount, so I just need to let him know what I need. Then have another friend of a friend who will fit them for me.
Are there any particular brands I should stay away from? I'm not looking for anything more than like for like, and my car currently has OEM ones.

I think pagid are the oem ones. I went with ebc red stuff pads as they give off less dust and have better stopping power.

I second EBC red stuff. Good bite and greatly reduced brake dust.

The latest VAG number is 4G0 698 151 AG but this is too new for most systems so the previous number 4G0 698 151 M gives better results and in the workshop we would fit the Pagid T2093 as for us Pagid is fit and forget.

Would you happen to have the VAG Number for the rears please?

All this is quite confusing, but something that I would like to understand so based on the information provided and the fact that I'm curious to see what ceramic pads would be like, I've ordered:

Fingers crossed they are the right ones. If not, at least I'll learn something :D
