Hi,
I got the dreaded ‘alternator not charging battery’ message when driving home the other night gradually systems failed one by one then I spent 5 hours stranded by the side of the road waiting for the RAC.
I’m assuming the fault lies with the alternator itself -I will try and start her up and measure the voltages, but I need to fix it sharpish.
I’m having a terrible job trying to find the correct replacement part though and Audi are not been helpful; they can get me a part for £700 + a cover charge for exchanging the unit but say it will take 10-15 working days as it’s a non-stock item.
ok, so I asked them for the part number and they practically sneered at me. All they would tell me was it’s a VALEO unit and is rated somewhere between 120 and 180 amps.
I looked in Erwin as I hoped that might give me the info I needed but, alas, no.
Other than removing the old one and checking, is there any way of finding the part number or parameters for this ?
As it’s now completely dead, I can’t even get VCDS onto it to interrogate until I can get a wee bit of juice from a helpful neighbour.
Has anyone had this before ? Is there anything other than the alternator and battery I should check ? Does anyone happen to know the part number ?
thanks in advance for your help
Richard
