Sorry for bombarding with questions.
Am changing the oil and filter in auto box, can I ask where the filter is located?! And where is the filler...I assume you just fill it up to the level? Advice appreciated as ever.

It is a GPE code 09B series box so the ubiquitous Jatco JF506E/F5A5. The filter is VAG part number 09A 325 429 A and is behind the sump plate. We would use the Febi 26054 filter plus you will need the gasket 09B 321 371, some companies sell the filter and gasket as a kit. The fluid is VAG G 052 990 A2 so basically GM Dexron III ATF which is easily available.

The filler is the drain, standard practice now. The fluid is pumped in from below using a specific adapter and a pressure pump system. A specific volume of fluid is added and then the box brought up to setting temperature, usually 35c, observed in measuring blacks and then the drain plug removed to see if more than an initial splash of oil comes out of the level setting tube. If only a splash comes out, more is added and if a flow is observed it is left until it becomes a trickle and then the bung reinstalled, all before it hits 40c… yes it is a PITA!

You get used to it, all VAG auto and wet clutch DSG boxes are like this now. One of the worst is the ZF 0B5 quattro box used in the big Audi’s. We have pumps and adapters to make it much quicker. Last summer on THAT hot day we were doing all three fluids in a 0B5 and the max value for setting the level is 40 centigrade and even with two big shop fans blowing at the box from below for hours and having put 10 litres of fluid in the fridge overnight we still could only get the temp down to 41 centigrade. Consequently when he had a service at Audi (he travelled from London to Nottingham to have it done as Audi refused to do it) they reported a slight venting of fluid because it was probably very slightly over filled.

Lordy.. well its going to have to get done. We have the ability to check the temperature, is the a pump that you can suggest that won't kill me to buy?
