Hi all. Just bought car, drove up from down south. Initially noticed smell of exhaust fumes when sitting idling. After 200 miles power loss, no smoke, tickover perfect, switched on and off back to normal. Happened again, so when restarted kept revs down and was ok till home.
It appears this is a very common problem!
Am getting a scan tonight, but any initial thoughts on the above info would be greatly appreciated...cheers

3 codes off a wee hand held scanner.
17965 17978 and 18062.
Any pointers? Thanks

17965 is overboost and it the majority of case means the turbo boost control system is sticking and the turbo needs a rebuild, it is prolly the reason the car was old as I have seen this MANY times.
17978 is the immobiliser activating and the most common cause is the reader coil around the ignition switch
18062 is a note to check the instrument fault codes and probably will relate to the immobiliser seeing a poor key chip signal

So I am trying to find my engine code, in the event I need a turbo. My id paper sticker is worn and can't read! How to track down?
I am also going to replace the turbo valve, and any pipework going in out of turbo.
Any idea what the gauge of pipe is I would need to buy? Help appreciated as ever.

You have either a vac problem or sticking vanes. check at turbo actuator you have a reading of approx 26/27 in/hg using a vac gauge
