I'm in the middle of changing my timing belt, BKD engine and have a question regarding the crank pulley markings to set at TDC.

I have the crank pulley mark lined up with the crank locking tool mrk as seen in the picture; but my question is, is there no mark on the engine casing for this pulley mark to line up with? How would you know the crank pulley is at TDC if there is only a single mark on the pulley side and nothing on the engine or back side without using the tool? Or are you only ever supposed to set this engine at TDC using a crank locking tool which has it's own mark?

Also, my cam pins won't slot in, there a wee bit out, I can get 5mm drill bits into them but not the 6mm locking tool pins or 6mm drills, I see folk loosening the 3 133mm cam pulley bolts in these cases and adjusting the pulley until the pin slots in. Is there a DIY friendly tool for adjusting the cam pulley as with the 3 bolts slackened off it's very difficult to turn.

No mark on block , hence why locking tool exists, use a 6mm drill bit on cam, remove belt then move cam so 6mm slides in and out perfectly. I then loosen 13mm x 3 bolts , i usually slide the cam sprocket clockwise and as i fit new belt and adust tensioner it pulls the sprocket close to centre of movement .
You changing studs ? The cam one is torque to yield, mess up and overtghten it and it all goes mental after about a week of driving. Torque is on the cover from memory 20nm and 45 degrees.
