View Full Version : TMC Traffic messages?

My A6 is fitted with an MMI3G Basic unit. On the Satnav map page the TMC symbol is often crossed out which I guess means no signal is being received. Other times the symbol is not crossed out but I still get no messages either verbal or in text when the INFO button is pressed. I believe having read of the issue on the Briskoda forum that this is a problem for all VAG cars and wondered if anyone on here has experienced it. This is the RDS TMC which is received over Classic FM and not the internet fee based system available in later models.

its a dieing technology, i live in Lisburn and only ever got the odd traffic info for the M6 in England i think it was when i had my A6. I believe it does depend in info broadcast by a radio station.
With 3G basic i think you could update to andriod auto / apple car play if that floats your boat?

Have heard that Trafficmaster used to supply this service but they turned it off. INRIX now do it but VAG have not subscribed to it so we now have loads of VAG owners with no TMC unless VAG sort it out.:zx11:

yeah doubt that will happen, i think car manufactures Sat Nav is also all but dead, the last time i tried to follow one it took me the shortest route but it was far from optimised. With andriod and apple now able to easily connect there are too many better third party apps that can be used.
either that or with connected cars it will become a subscription service like heated seats in BMs.
I heard about ford patent on their tech, if you start to default on you car payments they start to shut off accessories, until you get too far behind then they send the return to the dealer command to the car!!

Thing is though that they sell you a car with built in Navigation along with a handbook on how to use it. Nowhere in the book does it say "this will be turned off in X number of years".

its only getting worse as tech explodes. The wife's 2016 jag is connected and runs off 3G, which is getting turned off this year!!

There will be many thousands of cars with no traffic guidance meaning longer delays and more air pollution.

Unlike later VAG Navis, the MMI3G ((edit. Sorry I meant 2G)) can switch between INRIX and Trafficmaster as the TMC source (in the UK).
I cannot remember where, but somewhere in the settings menus it says TMC Source> Capital Radio or Classic FM. I think you just need to choose the other and wait a while.
Later Navis are stuck on TrafficMaster who no longer run a TMC Service.

In the green menus I found this page: main/radio/tmc/tmcchinastations[142>62:9:55]
> TMC Stations
then column headings:
Sel Pl Sl MGS CC LTN AF Qual
but then no entries below.
I guess that would be where TMC sources would be listed if there were any.

Is this in the green hidden menu? I cannot get in to mine as I don't have it turned on. I am on an MMI3G Basic with no TMC at the moment.

Apologies. Not sure if that was a brain fart or what but the 2G is selectable. Not later ones. Sorry.
