I've got the following fault showing:

01699 - Motor for Central Locking; Hatch/Trunk (V53)
009 - Open or Short to Ground
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 01101001
Fault Priority: 3
Fault Frequency: 27
Reset counter: 217
Mileage: 0 km
Time Indication: 0

Is it possible to tell from this whether there is a bad connection/broken wire, o a fault in the motor?

The latch works perfectly well, although it does make a loud, rattly clonk when I release it.

Thanks

does not compute, latch works perfectly well?

does it work on the bench ok - if in the car is it intermittent?
at a guess you have a bad connection / loom. get the DMM out and start measuring voltages and continuity.
the lack of rattly clonk would suggest its not getting the juice it needs which goes back to a bad connection / loom.
Check you grounds first i think.

The catch is failing and will eventually leave you stuck, replace it before that happens.

Thank you both for your replies and suggestions.

I'll find a replacement and then take it out, so that I can still lock the car (no garage)

It looks like the part number for the latch is:

but that doesn't correspond to the part numbers shown in the scan:

My mistake. I assume its the actuator that I need (4b9962115b), not the lock itself
