I have a 2016 VW Sharan, 2.0 TDI with the CUVC engine. EA288 if I am not mistaken.
I have started to become aware of reasonable blue smoke on start up, throughout the winter it has become more noticeable particularly on cold starts.
Predominantly first start of the day is when it is most noticeable, even though the car may sit for 6-8 hours during the day there doesn't tend to be any noticeable amount starting up afterwards.
Car still drives and pulls well, but would like to get rid of the smoky start.
Any ideas.........?

I would say one or more faulty glow plugs but I would have expected the engine MIL to come on as it has glow plug monitoring.

Hi Crasher,
Glow Plugs interesting, they wouldn't have even been on my radar, I am assuming that the blue smoke is engine oil that has accumulated being combusted would that be correct?
To add to that I have done a DTC scan with VCDS recently with no codes that appeared to relate to glow plugs, codes present were 01415 - Recirculating Pump (V55) and 02251 - Heater Unit Locked unless they somehow have a connection?
Thanks

Glow plugs can give an oily smoke look.

I have made a discovery in addition to smoke, oil level reading on the dipstick has dropped.
Almost 3 months ago (2000 km's ago) Done oil change and ensured correct level top up, checked 2/3 times after idling level was up to the maximum on dipstick.
Re-checked this week and it's at minimum on the dipstick.
Only other evidence I can see is a slight seep/wet area around the back right hand corner of the rocker cover gasket, (wouldn't even call it a leak) and a similarly damp look near the intake pipe entry into the turbo, again not huge just damp looking more than anything?
Any ideas with this further information?

Get the turbo rebuilt.

You need to get the turbo checked and hope it is that, if you keep on driving you will wreck the cat and DPF.
